"When I moved to Hartsville over 25 years ago, I was pleased to find the Burry Bookstore. Mr. Burry welcomed me to the store as if I was an old family friend. Since then, it has been my pleasure to wander the aisles of the Burry Bookstore on many a day for many an hour. Whether I am buying books, cards, or gifts, the selection is excellent. Everyone in the store is always courteous and helpful. I introduced my children to the wonders of reading at the Burry Bookstore and I now have the opportunity to do the same with my grandchildren. We in Hartsville are truly blessed to have this great resource in our community and I encourage everyone to take advantage of the experience of shopping in a true family-owned business with a real hometown feel."

"I enjoy shopping at Burry's Bookstore. Everyone there is so friendly and helpful. They can order books for me and get them in right away. I also enjoy looking and buying greeting cards at Burry's. I am kept up to date on their latest book sales and other events by the way of E-mail."

"I have shopped in Burry Bookstore since I was a little girl and I will continue to shop there because of the great service I receive every time I walk in their door. The atmosphere is calming and inviting and I feel that I can browse and make my selections at my own pace. The staff is very friendly and always ready to help me when I need it. On many occasions, they have given me advice on books and are more than willing to order any additional titles that I need. Burry Bookstore even offers summer programs for children. My youngest son has really enjoyed being involved in the Book Talks because the leaders of this program have really made reading fun for him! I also love the discounts I receive with the Super Shoppers Club! Great atmosphere, excellent customer service, fun children's programs, Super Shoppers Club...wonderful reasons to shop at Burry Bookstore!"

"I love books. I love having stacks and shelves of hundreds of books in my house and office. I love all kinds of books regardless of the targeted age group a book is written toward. I love telling people (especially my husband as I explain why I spent money on a child's book that will be placed on our coffee table) that the book "just jumped off the shelf at Burry's and landed in my hands." Well when a book does that, I can't just leave it at Burry's, can I? No kidding. But, this magic doesn't happen in the big chain bookstore and definitely not online because they do not have what Burry's has: an owner and her staff who truly cherish books, care about meeting each customer's purpose for visiting the store, know their regular customers by name, and warmly welcome new visitors/customers. So, I may buy my coffee at a large bookstore, but I know my books will come from the store that loves them and the people who take them home, Burry Bookstore."

"My visits to Burry Bookstore are always enjoyable on many levels. Burry's staff is friendly, well-informed, and helpful in so many ways. Being greeted by name and a smile means my shopping experience is off to a good start. Often I am directed to new books of local interest or history (passions of mine). Other times whenever I place an order for a book I am promptly notified when it arrives. After a long day at work, all it takes to brighten my outlook is a message from Burry's announcing that the book I ordered has arrived. I must admit that I often take advantage of Burry's offer to gift wrap presents I purchase there. Being challenged in that respect, I know that my gifts will be professionally wrapped at no extra charge. Most importantly, Burry Bookstore has a vested interest in my hometown, Hartsville. The success of our community is built on the shoulders of dozens of independent stores in our downtown area. For two generations the Burry and Phillips families have believed in and contributed to the quality of life in our fair city by investing in Downtown Hartsville. Thank you."

"Shopping at Burry Bookstore is always such a pleasure. It's customer service at it's finest! Not only is the staff friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, they go out of their way to accommodate your needs. I buy there both personally, and for the Lee County Public Library because I enjoy supporting the local bookstores when I can! And I've learned too that if they don't have a title you need or want, they will get it for you! I think that Hartsville is very fortunate to have such an establishment."

"Burry Bookstore is such a wonderful place! I have been shopping at Burry Bookstore since I was 12 years old, and now I love shopping there with my own children. From books to engraved stationery to educational toys, the selection is wonderful. When I need a gift, it is so convenient to stop by, make my selection, and have the gift beautifully wrapped. It is indeed a blessing to have such a personable bookstore right here in Hartsville!"

"My family has been shopping at Burry Bookstore for years for a variety of reasons. When my children were small I shopped for books and gift items for them. Now that I am a grandmother/babysitter I still enjoy the children's section immensely. However, my shopping time is very limited and Burry's always tries to help by wrapping things and having them ready so I can run in quickly and pick them up in between caring for grandchildren. As my children have grown up my oldest daughter orders books that she needs for teaching at Mayo and I had a great experience ordering my youngest daughter's wedding invitations and informal notes a few years ago from Burry's. By being a member of the Super Shopper Club I save quite a bit on my purchases, particularly at Christmas when I do something a bit different for the members of my family and close friends. I select one children's Christmas book and order a large quantity for these special people. The ladies at Burry's gift wrap them for free, I get a discount as a club member, and am supporting my community, all at the same time. Why would I shop anywhere else?"

"I love Burry Bookstore! It’s my very favorite place to buy gifts – for family, teachers, and sometimes myself! I especially like to shop for children’s birthday gifts at Burry’s. When my kids get a birthday invitation, they know we’ll be making a trip to the bookstore. Their favorite part is getting to play with the blocks and toys in the play area while I pick out the card, do a quick check to make sure there isn’t a book that I just have to have, while the ladies there wrap the gift! Burry’s is convenient, friendly, and I feel good about shopping there because I know I’m supporting Hartsville families. And, it feels good to support a business that I know loves Hartsville and gives so much back to the community. Besides, I don’t think Hartsville would be the same without Burry’s (it breaks my heart to think of a vacant building where Burry’s has been for decades!) and the only way to ensure it’ll be here for years to come is to make sure we visit them regularly rather than just hoping someone else is, while we shop online to save a few dollars."

"Some people think shopping "away" in another town or city is better than shopping locally. Why is that? Have you shopped at Burry Bookstore recently? Did you attend an author’s booksigning or place an order for a special book? I did. In an age when technology sometimes isolates us, it is nice to see a familiar face and hear a friendly voice."

"I have enjoyed shopping at Burry Book Store since we moved here from Atlanta in 2000. To find such a delightful book shop in the heart of downtown only adds to the charm of Hartsville. Emily and the store staff are always welcoming, friendly and helpful. Most often the book I am looking for is right on the shelf. If not, the order process is always simple and quick. The opportunities provided by the author's luncheons and childrens' readings further enrich our community. For me, Burry's is part of what makes Hartsville feel like home."

"Shopping at Burry Bookstore is a family tradition for the Baucom Bunch which began when we moved to Hartsville nearly 30 years ago. We have always been welcomed and greeted by name, even when the children were small, and have been treated as valued customers. My parents, who live in a much larger city, especially love to go to Burry's because they no longer have a local bookstore which offers such personal service. Not only do we find great reading material there, but a wide variety of other gifts and services. Thanks for the friendly service, up-to-date products, and now the wonderful "Meet the Authors" opportunities! Y'all are GREAT!!!"

"We moved to Hartsville a few years ago, and we were quickly drawn in by the beautiful and vibrant downtown area. How rare, in these days of huge corporations and big box stores, to find a walkable downtown area with shops that have been in operation for several generations. Burry Bookstore is one of our family favorites, and we have committed to doing all our book and gift shopping there in an effort to keep what we have. Emily and all the women who work there always greet us and help lead us to what we need, or they let us browse for as long as we want. Even my extended family makes a stop in Burry Bookstore when they are visiting the grandkids, because the large city where they live has no such treasure!
"I especially love the variety of quality books and toys for children. We're always proud to give gifts from Burry, because we know they are toys and books of lasting value. My children can play in the children's area while I browse the shelves, and have done so for long stretches. For myself, I enjoy the cookbook and gardening sections, where I can find helpful books that are regionally specific. I always make a stop at the stationery section, as well. If I know of a book that isn't on the shelves, I've used the online shopping, or requested that the bookstore order something, and I enjoy picking it up right in the store."

"Warm atmosphere, friendly faces, excellent service make shopping at Burry's a treasure we want to keep. We can't imagine our town without this pleasant and enjoyable experience. Burry's has become a part of our family - like an old friend whose friendship you value more every year!!"

"Hartsville is fortunate to have its very own bookstore, owned, operated and managed by a native of Hartsville! Sometimes we don't realize just how fortunate we are to have someone like Emily Burry Phillips who is vested in Hartsville in a huge way. Across the United States, bookstores are rapidly finding themselves in bankruptcy, as the Internet has taken much of the local business. Burry Bookstore continues to provide wonderful opportunities for our citizens, opportunities that we certainly don't want to lose. From hosting bestselling authors (and encouraging new authors like me) and providing special events like Mrs. Kit and Ashley the Magician to providing clubs and other organizations support in their every endeavor, Emily and her staff at Burry's are one of Hartsville's treasures."

"Entering Burry Book Store is like a breath of fresh air. You are always greeted by a friendly and smiling sales lady who ALWAYS asks "how are you" and calls you by name. The ladies in Burry's truly care about each person that enters their store and will help them in any way they can. If they don't have what someone needs, they will suggest another store in Hartsville that they should try. To me, this is going the extra mile for their customers. Whether it is an all occasion card, a book, a gift or personalized note cards, Emily and Lynn and all the girls always make it a fun experience. If I am not sure, I will ask their advice and they will give me their ideas and most of the time, they point things out that I had not even thought about. They all are great and my trips to Burry's are very frequent and for whatever reason if I don't go in Burry's for several days, the next time I do go, Lynn will say, where have you been-"we have missed you"-Now how many places can you go anywhere and have that kind of personal attention?
I just know in my heart that Mr. Charlie Burry (whom I loved dearly) is still smiling down on all of us because Emily is continuing "The Burry Tradition" in the same way he did for many years. The city of Hartsville is so lucky to have Burry Book Store. It truly is a wonderful asset to the City and I am proud that I have been able to shop there for many years."

"I love Burry Bookstore and enjoy treating myself to books and items from their stock. I also find Burry Bookstore to be most accommodating for my shopping needs. I can call to check on any title or author and if not in stock it is there within a day or two. Additionally, I feel that it is one of the best places in Hartsville to buy a gift for people of all ages. The personnel are very friendly and helpful. Burry has been very supportive of local talent and I always enjoy their inviting window displays. It is always a delightful place to visit and shop!"

"Upon moving to Hartsville thirty-nine years ago, I quickly found Burry Bookstore. Charlie Burry was always so happy to see his customers and to help them find what they were looking for. Now, his daughter, Emily, continues to keep Burry's the same happy, friendly store it has always been. But, she has also kept up with changing times by offering online shopping, luncheons with authors and generally keeping us all up to date. The entire staff is so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable - my shopping experience is always a pleasure. Burry's continues to be a Hartsville treasure!"

"A trip to Burry's to shop for books is always a special treat. I just love the Southern fiction section and always find a new title or author to enjoy. Burry Bookstore is also the place I shop when buying books for school. Even if they have to order a book... there is never a problem finding a title I need, and it only takes a few days to arrive. It is a pleasure to shop at Burry Bookstore... the ladies in the front are always willing to help and provide great service - always with a smile!"

"My children and I love shopping at Burry Book Store. My son once said, 'the people there are so nice and helpful...you just can't find that service everywhere!' I have to agree with him. The employees are always willing to help us find what we're looking for and we never go away empty handed!"

"Shopping at Burry Bookstore is a pleasant experience. There is always someone happy to help me find what I need, no matter how long it takes. It is so nice to go in and see smiling faces on employees who truly enjoy what they do, who care about the customers and who are so knowledgeable about books. You just don't get that kind of TLC other places." Laura Hunt

"Reading is my passion and what a blessing it is to have this wonderful and unique bookstore in my hometown. Their service is above and beyond what you find anywhere else – always a warm welcome and ready to help you. I decided to use their online services last week. It was easy and I will use the online ordering again for convenience. Still, it doesn’t take the place of the warmth you feel when you visit the store. Burry Bookstore is part of the fiber of Hartsville. Thanks, Emily and staff, for your dedication to service and quality."

"I am from Darlington, but bring my grandson to a weekly appointment in Hartsville. My favorite pasttime while he is in his session is browsing and shopping at Burry Book Store. I like the cozy atmosphere of a local shop, and the courteous personal service. Burry will promptly order anything they don't have in stock. I like to give books for Christmas and birthdays and I got great discounts this year with my Super Shopper Club membership. I look forward to shopping and saving at Burry for the rest of 2011."

"What a comfortable place! Burry Bookstore has that inviting quality that seems all too infrequent in this day. How refreshing to have people who are competent and courteous when asked to help! Recently my son, Bond, was there to sign his children's book and remarked that that very atmosphere of warmth and the pleasant smell of books evoked memories of his earlier years in Hartsville and in Burry's. Though the store has evolved it has maintained the special quality it has always had - a wonderfully warm atmosphere! Thank you for being here for Hartsville!"

"Burry Bookstore is always a fun place to shop. The service is always excellent because they care enough to give individual attention to everyone who enters their store. Most of all, the prices on cards can not be beat. If they do not have a book that I am looking for, they are willing to order it and have very fast service."

"One of my most treasured gifts came today in the way of a gift certificate to Burry's. I love shopping there and I love the convenience of being able to shop via E-mail with Burry. I especially enjoy the Book Signing Luncheons and have attended many of them. I love the ladies who serve me when I go in...always greeting me with a 'hello Catherine'....always willing to help me find the book or books or any other item I am looking for. I would venture to say that Burry Bookstore is my very favorite place to shop in Hartsville. Many of the gifts I give throughout the year come from Burry's."

"What a wonderful town and pleasure it is to live in Hartsville! Among all the amenities is our very own Burry Bookstore! It is so great to come here to shop and to be greeted by clerks who are always smiling and know you by name, eager to help you with cards, books and gifts. I totally support 'our' bookstore in Hartsville."

"I've been shopping at Burry's so long it is like family when I enter with Lynn always letting me know about books that may catch my interest. Just lately she remembered that I like Archibald Rutledge and as a result of her suggestion I bought this book which I have enjoyed over the Holidays. She also ordered a special Bible of which only four were found and she was able to get it here in just a few days. She also suggested that I have it engraved, which she did right there in the store with a variety of lettering styles within 24 hours. My wife was very pleased receiving that on Christmas morning. Lynn and the staff know that I read to my children at bedtime and they always keep me informed of new authors and books that they know are suitable for my children and what subjects and style they like. My mother shops there often also so the whole family has benefited from the store for many years. Thanks, Emily, for always keeping the store in a friendly family atmosphere. See you soon."
